So I wanted to tell you guys about my experience at
New York Fashion Week for the F/W 15 shows. I ended up attending two shows and
a showcase… So about a week and a half before Fashion Week I got an email from
Stylehaul (my network) asking if I could cover two fashion shows. The shows
were Kaelen and Milly by Michelle. I was so excited that they asked me to do
social media coverage for them backstage. It was something I had dreamed of
doing. The days before the shows quickly passed and before I knew it it was
time for me to go to the Kaelen show.
Kaelen is a NYC based clothing brand designed by Kaelen Haworth. I
didn't know much about this designer before going to this show. Luckily the
venue was within walking distance and I was able to get there right on time. I
checked in to the show and headed backstage. I was sent there with Kiss
Products and Broadway Nails, which is a nail brand that's sold at stores like
CVS, Target and Duane Reade. I thought this was pretty cool since I always use
their nail products. A few minutes after I got there, I met the head of the PR
team and she basically told me what was going down that day. I would take
pictures of the makeup, hair and nails team backstage and post them to my
social media accounts. Although it seemed pretty straightforward, being
backstage at fashion shows is pretty nerve-racking. Everyone is rushing to get
the models hair and makeup done as fast as they can. There are usually 15-30
models walking the runways. Luckily, I wasn’t there to dress any models
like last fashion week. That was beyond nerve racking. Before the show, I got
the chance to interview the Mac Makeup artist Chantel Miller. She was so sweet
and told us that the makeup was inspired by Twin Peaks, a tv serial drama that
took place in the early 90’s. They used simple eye makeup with a bold lip
called Lady Danger, it’s a bright orange toned red shade that looks great on
almost, if not all, skin tones. I’ll admit, after seeing it on the models, I
had to go out and buy it! It’s my new favorite red shade. After the makeup, I
interviewed Gina Edwards. She is a celebrity manicurist that has done work for
Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Complex Magazine, Jimmy Choo and Vogue! For Kaelen
she was using Kiss Design Perfection Strips and Impress press-on manicures.
They used mostly nude shades on the models because the colors in the designs
were very toned down. The hair for this show was very soft brushed out curls,
which gave it a 60’s vibe. After the interviews, I was able to watch the entire
show. The designs were very wearable pieces. A lot of the designs used vertical
stripes and colors like baby pink, navy and burnt orange. While watching the
show, Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat casually walked past me a few times,
that was pretty cool.
On February 16th, 2015, I attended a fashion showcase at
Youtube Space New York called Brand Assembly. The designers included Hunter
Bell, Nikki Chasin and Michelle Kim. There were three different studios where
the models displayed the clothes according to designer. The first studio was
Hunter Bell. The designs were beautiful. The prints included zig zags, celestial and crochet textures. Most of the models wore thigh high boots which looked great with the silhouettes of the designs. I
felt the same way about Nikki Chasin’s collection. The designs were amazing and
included a gorgeous white maxi dress that I would wear nonstop. Michelle Kim’s
collection was one of my favorites out of all the shows I went to. She used
white and dark tones like grey and black. My favorite design was the dog
printed dress. I could never pull it off but it is such a cute piece.
I plan to start posting on here a lot more so stay tuned for more
